  • Thanks for all the really informative, interesting and super cute videos. I've been binge watching these during Corona, including lots of your old videos, and really want to start fostering cats once we have our own place. I noticed in this video that you said you no longer do some of the things in your old videos, such as pushing kitten's boundaries with "purritos" etc. If I hadn't watched this video, I would have thought putting cats in purritos is the best thing and is helping them. I wondered if there is anything we can do to correct the old videos, so that people don't get old information, and if you had done a video updating people on what has changed in our understanding of loving feral kittens?

  • Omg she mentioned my method that I thought I was so clever for coming up with, keeping the cat carrier out 24/7 with their blankets and toys/sometimes some treats inside. My cats never have a issue going in their carrier and we have pleasant vet visits.

  • What about socializing a trio of non-food interested 12-20 week old kitten/cats? 3 days ago I needed to capture the three cats and put them in a cage/kennel. They were very stressed by this, and I can put food in front of them by hand and be refused, but when I drop the food they will eat it. if my hand/fingers are close, they will not for the most part do anything! I have one that I bopped on the nose with sme Churu, and he did not even lick it off until later! The other two did lick the churu, and one even licked my finger when I got some Churu on it. But, one (the one who bit me) refuses to even feign interest in the food or Churu. Any thoughts to being able to get them to start moving towards socialization? Without them being food motivated, I am out of my depth! As I have been bitten, they are quarantined for 14 days regardless of anything else...

  • All of my cats came to me when they were older. The youngest were 7 month ferals, and the others were at least three years old when they came to my home. Much of their early socialization was absent. As a result, they don't like to be picked up and getting them into their carrier can be a nightmare.

  • A few years ago we had some kittens we were caring for and they both were suckers and victims, I wasn't as involved in their daily care as my step mom so I'm not sure how she broke the habit or of they grew out of it, but we were so confused cause it was the first time we had kittens that did that behavior and since then, I didn't realize till watching this that it happened so frequently

  • I love heart expression. I've always had a cat that gives me a lot of love and affection a deep bond that most relate to what they expect from a dog. I read that about getting used to the carrier and always leave bedding in the carrier and available. Harness training is great so is puzzle feeders. I love kneading and nuzzling behaviour. One of my cats love to shred cardboard boxes near me xxx

  • Yes to the point about behavior can be health related!! Our cat was constantly avoiding her litter box and our vet out her on a prescription diet and it was helped so much! She wasn’t being bad, she was trying to tell us something was wrong.

  • I adopted an 11 week old kitten from a rescue about a month ago. I'm not sure if she was separated from her mother early but she suckles. It's usually when she's tired/relaxed. She suckles on fabric or if we're laying in bed together she'll try to suckle on my ear lobe or my finger tips. She's not obsessive or neurotic about it I don't think because I can usually distract her from it with food or a toy but is it something I need to stop and if so how? I've read online that sometimes they do this from stress and sometimes it's a sign that they're comfortable and content. I have also read that sometimes adults will do it as a sign of contentment.

  • One of my friends got a kitten because the cat of her husband's aunt got out and got back pregnant and had a litter of three. The aunts cat didn't get neutered afterwards, even though I tried to stress this but got pushed down with the argument "usually the cat isn't outside and can't get pregnant" I tried to tell my friend to take in, at least, two kittens because one shouldn't be alone. Maybe the whole litter. She didn't listen and took only one in. Her kids kinda tortured the poor thing and the cat became scared of humans. She hated to have a scared cat and just neglected it. Since we lived as neighbors, I let in her cat, fed her with good food, showed her that snuggles aren't bad and treated it against fleas, ticks etc. My friend told me to stop because she feared her cat wouldn't come home to her again. I did, but I didn't like it. A few years later she got a new kitten, this time from a farm and the old cat didn't really liked it and started to hide. My friend loved her new kitten, because it liked to snuggle a lot but doesn't take either of them to the vet. The new kitten started to pee on soft spots like the couch or in the basket of washed clothes etc. She asked me what to do and I told her to got to a vet because there could be a lot of reasons. She straight out told me that she is sure her new kitten just does this to make her angry and simply gave it away. Now, she bought three baby bunny's and I'm horrified to see them in their tiny cage. I don't know what to do.

  • I think back to 40 years ago (and longer) and cats were thought of as low maint. Especially because most cats were outdoor cats and you didn't see them all that much. These days, things have changed a lot in the way we take care of cats and that is good! Things have progressed in the last 40 years.

She figured out the gravity water bowl & she had a fun day running thru the water. She likes taking her baths. I wanted to get her a puzzle feeder but I am afraid shes gonna figure out how it works again. By the way I had to take her gravity water away. So back to a bowl of water. She like ice water too so I gotta make sure it has a couple cubes of ice. Any idea which feeder is best?

  • One thing I notice is that most vets where I live, are not very good with cats. So much so that I believe one vet clinic is partially responsible for my sister's cat's death. They were incredibly negligent, and my sister trusted them because of percieved authority. I've worked with vets, and I dislike how many of them work with cats. I also have taken my own cats for a recurring problem, and I don't like how my vets handle it, almost like they don't even want to bother. It's been super different when I've taken dogs. I think vets are partly to blame for why people don't take cats to vets as much as dogs.

I had a couple cats before but I'm mostly a dog person (I've had almost 20+ dogs during my life) so I feel like I don't understand cats behavior the same way I understand dogs. And I don't just want to adopt a cat to leave them be, I want to make them as happy as I can and give them what they need, specially since I live in an apartment and there's not much to offer. This interview is teaching me a lot, thank you so much Hannah and Mikel, you're doing an amazing job :)

My 13-year old cat become an outdoor bathroom user. What do I do? She has not used a litter box in months? What about in winter? Am I a horrible parent? She has never been great at the litter box.

I currently have these 3 cats & I find myself in very unfortunate circumstances, & I'm no longer able to care for them like the deserve/need. I don't want to give them up for good but I need to find a person/facility who can give them a good temporary home until I'm back on my feet. I live in Baltimore & I've tried Bmorecats, eastern animal hospital, pooches & purrs, Barcs, Maryland spca, rescue wells, get your pet, humane rescue Alliance, prince George's county animal Services & adoption center, Montgomery county animal services & adoption center, Montgonery county humane society & baltimore humane society. I'm still waiting to hear back from pooches & purrs, Maryland spca, rescue we'll & baltimore humane society. The rest of these places weren't able to help. Are you able to help me? Any help at all would be so appreciated.

  • It kind of suprised me that you mention all those things that were like common knowledge to me. As a mom to three cats, I clean their litterbox at least 3 times a day, and of course I take them to the vet when I observe a different behavior in them. It makes me think that it should be mandatory to watch at least 10 episodes of Jackons Galaxy's show to understand cats before getting one. ;)

  • Great video but I have so many questions! 1. For the puzzle feeders, how do you do that when you have multiple cats and one is much more food motivated than the other? I'm afraid I'll end up with one fat cat and one skinny cat. 2. For harness training, do you recommend that in cities? I live in a high-rise and my only available grass is a nearby park where I don't know what's been sprayed on the grass or what other animals have been around.

  • On the topic of sucking in cats: my first cat Kuiper had some big issues with that when we first adopted him at around 4 months old. We were told that he lost his mom very early and sucking was something he was still doing. He was also previously adopted and returned(insane I know) because of being too needy. The sucking took a few additional months to stop and we had to be consistent with praise for lick kisses and pull him away when he would try to latch onto an arm. At 1 year of age he was sucking free. He would also cry whenever we left the apartment and seemed to develop separation anxiety. After having him about a year and moving into a larger place, we got him a little sister and all of his issues stopped since he had a companion 24/7.
